Green Thumb Garden Club Continuing Projects

Butterfly Garden, Lakeside Park Fond du Lac

Green Thumb Garden Club maintains an extensive flower garden on Fountain Island, Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac that s currently on the national registry with Monarch Watch as a Monarch way-station. The garden contains primarily perennials to attract butterflies with host plants such as milkweed, butterfly weed, dill, fennel and parsley. Pollinator friendly annuals provide color all summer. and food for a variety of butterflies.  The garden is located at the water's edge next to two gazebos where many weddings and events are held. The hard work by our Butterfly Garden volunteers provide a beautiful and colorful backdrop for any occasion ot just to stop by the water's edge and enjoy.

  Arbor Day Observance

The members of Green Thumb Garden Club in 2019 donated and gathered together in planting a Snow Crab tree on Fountain Island, Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac. Green Thumb members also joined the Lakeshore Elementary 3rd grade class to help students learn about Arbor Day from City Arborist Brian Weed, and learn the environmental value of the many trees planted by Green Thumb Garden Club. The class additionally helped plant a tree in the park in observation of Arbor Day, donated by Festival Foods.

Flower and Horticulture Display Show

Green Thumb Garden Club ion July 12th and 13th, 2019, hosted an informal flower show  "Color our World" at the Fond du Lac Library. Members were encouraged to create a beautiful design with plant materials from their gardens but also given the opportunity to purchase plant material to complete their design.  The Horticultural component showcases the most  perfect example possible of a plant variety and must be grown by the presenter. This free event  to the community is well advertised and the public is encouraged to come enjoy the beautiful blooms, ask questions from our seasoned gardeners/designers , and vote on their favorite design.

 Patriot Gardens

Green Thumb Garden Club members partner with the American Legion Post 75 at 500 Fond du Lac Ave in Fond du Lac to create, maintain and clean the flower and garden beds throughout the growing season   Red White and Blue themed gardens are ablaze with gorgeous perennials and annuals set a patriotic theme along this well traveled route and this popular location enjoyed by the public and our valued veteran community.

The Salvation Food Pantry - .
