Butterfly Garden, Lakeside Park Fond du Lac
Green Thumb Garden Club maintains an extensive flower garden on Fountain Island, Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac that s currently on the national registry with Monarch Watch as a Monarch way-station. The garden contains primarily perennials to attract butterflies with host plants such as milkweed, butterfly weed, dill, fennel and parsley. Pollinator friendly annuals provide color all summer. and food for a variety of butterflies. The garden is located at the water's edge next to two gazebos where many weddings and events are held. The hard work by our Butterfly Garden volunteers provide a beautiful and colorful backdrop for any occasion ot just to stop by the water's edge and enjoy.

Arbor Day Observance
The members of Green Thumb Garden Club in 2019 donated and gathered together in planting a Snow Crab tree on Fountain Island, Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac. Green Thumb members also joined the Lakeshore Elementary 3rd grade class to help students learn about Arbor Day from City Arborist Brian Weed, and learn the environmental value of the many trees planted by Green Thumb Garden Club. The class additionally helped plant a tree in the park in observation of Arbor Day, donated by Festival Foods.

Flower and Horticulture Display Show
Green Thumb Garden Club ion July 12th and 13th, 2019, hosted an informal flower show "Color our World" at the Fond du Lac Library. Members were encouraged to create a beautiful design with plant materials from their gardens but also given the opportunity to purchase plant material to complete their design. The Horticultural component showcases the most perfect example possible of a plant variety and must be grown by the presenter. This free event to the community is well advertised and the public is encouraged to come enjoy the beautiful blooms, ask questions from our seasoned gardeners/designers , and vote on their favorite design.

Green Thumb Garden Club members partner with the American Legion Post 75 at 500 Fond du Lac Ave in Fond du Lac to create, maintain and clean the flower and garden beds throughout the growing season Red White and Blue themed gardens are ablaze with gorgeous perennials and annuals set a patriotic theme along this well traveled route and this popular location enjoyed by the public and our valued veteran community.
The Salvation Food Pantry - ..
The Salvation Army Food Pantry receives much collected food and much needed personal care items, coffee, socks, etc., for the Salvation Army Warming Shelter from the members of Green Thumb Garden Club. Most of the donations are collected during our annual Christmas Dinner and Party. People at the shelter were most grateful for the supplies, as well as the Salvation Army for our generous donation.
Veterans THRIVE Gardens -
The Veterans Thrive Gardens is located at the corner of 1st and Marr St in Fond du Lac and designed, built and planted by a collaboration of the Fond du Lac communities including Fond du Lac County Master Gardeners and local resident Veterans. The land is rented for $1/ year from Thrive Church and with the help of UW Fond du Lac Extension office, grants were written to buy supplies to build the raised beds in the design our American Flag. Master Gardeners helped design the layout, local Veterans including our president Vicky Melius-Suprenand helped to paint the beds with our patriotic colors. Green Thumb Garden Club planted and weeded the beds throughout the year Vegetable are donated to Veterans and their families, with any extra donated to the Food Pantry.
Green Thumb Garden Club helps every Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm to weed and maintain the gardens. Come grow with us at THRIVE Gardens - TBA - we would love to see you!
