The Fifth annual 2010 –11Green Thumb Scholarships were awarded to:
Philip Ohlinger - Philip is graduating from Fond du Lac High School and will be attending St. Norbert College in DePere, WI. in the College of Agriculture with a major in the Agronomy Department’s Crop and Soil Science Sustainable Agriculture Option. He states, "I hope to be able to use my skills to reduce pollution, improve upon alternative energy resources and raise awareness for the proper treatment of our environment." He was involved in many sports, high honors, badger boys and was very involved in FFA and band. He will receive a $750 scholarship.
Caleb Riedeman - Caleb is a graduating from Laconia High School and will be attending UW River Falls. He will be a student in the College of Agriculture and will major within the Agronomy Department's Crop and Soil Science Sustainable Agriculture Option. He says, "This option would allow me to work directly with plants and soils in an outdoor environment. It would enable me to work with the farmers of the world to promote proper land use, crop productivity and sustainability." He has been involved in numerous church activities, orchestra at school, the Boys and Girls Club and has been involved with the community gardens all through high school. He will receive a $750 scholarship.
Elizabeth Schneider - Elizabeth is attending Colby College in Waterville, Maine. She has declared her major to be Environmental Science with a concentration in Conservation Biology. She states, "I hope to make a difference in the field of conservation biology as a field researcher and then in regional environmental problems as an environmental lawyer." She carries a 3.88 GPA and is involved in the organic garden club at Colby College in Maine. She will receive a $500 scholarship.
